Los Angeles FC – Austin FC Prediction

One of the most fascinating clashes in the MLS playoffs sees Los Angeles FC host Austin FC at BMO Stadium on October 30.

Although a 13-point gap separated the two sides during the regular season, Austin have already proven they can beat LAFC — winning both previous meetings this year. Still, the playoff atmosphere in Los Angeles could tilt the balance back in favor of the home side.

Head coach Steve Cherundolo, set to depart at the end of the season, aims to end his successful tenure on a high. Since joining LAFC in 2022, he has guided the club to the Supporters’ Shield, MLS Cup, and US Open Cup, never finishing lower than third in the Western Conference.

The Black and Gold boast the best home record in the West with 11 wins, and they combine attacking flair with defensive solidity — scoring 65 goals (second most in the conference) while conceding just 40.

In contrast, Austin FC, under new coach Nico Estevez, return to the playoffs after missing out last season. Despite their low goal output (only 37 scored) and the worst goal difference among playoff teams (-8), they will take confidence from their perfect head-to-head record against LAFC.

Team News

LAFC will be without Aaron Long, Lorenzo Dellavalle, and Igor Jesus through injury, while Odin Thiago Holm remains doubtful. However, they still have plenty of firepower with Son Heung-min (9 goals in 9 games) and Denis Bouanga (24 regular-season goals), forming one of the league’s most dangerous attacking duos.

Austin FC are dealing with several absences of their own — Diego Rubio (hamstring) and Brandon Vazquez (ACL) are out, and Osman Bukari is a doubt. Keeper Brad Stuver, who made a league-high 128 saves and kept nine clean sheets, will once again be vital.

Prediction

LAFC’s home dominance, attacking strength, and big-game experience give them a major advantage in this opening leg. Austin will fight hard, but their limited scoring threat makes it tough to see them upsetting the hosts in Los Angeles.

Predicted Score: Los Angeles FC 2–0 Austin FC
Tip: 1 – LAFC to Win
