Premier League leaders Arsenal travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on Thursday looking to maintain their six-point cushion at the top and overcome a surprisingly persistent Thursday-night hoodoo. While the Gunners are unbeaten in 12 straight midweek league games, they have failed to score in their last three Premier League matches played specifically on a Thursday.
Mikel Artetaโs side, however, arrive in excellent overall form. Their 3-0 win over Sunderland last weekend showcased both efficiency and defensive solidity, with Viktor Gyรถkeres continuing his electric start to life in North London and Martin Zubimendi adding yet another goal since his January arrival.
Although Arsenalโs joy was tempered when Manchester City completed a miraculous comeback at Anfield, the Gunners still finished the weekend nine points clear โ their biggest end-day advantage since the Invincibles season of 2003โ04. With four straight wins in all competitions and three consecutive clean sheets, they look strong, balanced and mentally restored after a difficult January.
Their record in London derbies away from home also provides confidence: Arsenal have avoided defeat in 19 of their last 20 such fixtures and defeated Brentford 3-1 at the Gtech just over a year ago.
Brentford Flying Away From Home But Faltering at the Gtech
Brentford return home on the back of two outstanding away results โ a shock 1-0 win at Aston Villa with 10 men, followed by a dramatic 3-2 victory at Newcastle where Igor Thiago scored yet again and Dango Ouattara struck in the dying moments.
Despite this strong form on their travels, the Bees have been significantly less convincing at the Gtech Community Stadium. They have won only two of their last five home matches and failed to score in two of their last three. The goals of Igor Thiago โ nine in his last 10 Premier League home outings โ keep hope alive, but the broader team performance has been inconsistent.
Brentford also face a historical omen: the last time they lost back-to-back league home games, the second defeat was delivered by Arsenal โ the same scenario they face again on Thursday.
Absences further complicate matters, with Kevin Schade suspended and multiple key players sidelined with knee injuries. Reiss Nelson is unavailable against his parent club, and Jordan Henderson may find his place under threat after being substituted early at St Jamesโ Park.
Prediction: Arsenalโs Quality and Momentum Should Prevail
On paper and on form, this is a match Arsenal should control. Even with doubts surrounding Bukayo Saka, Martin รdegaard and Leandro Trossard, the Gunners retain significant depth. Gabriel Martinelli is ready to step in, and Viktor Gyรถkeres โ the Premier Leagueโs top scorer in all competitions in 2026 โ looks almost undroppable.
Brentford will compete, as they always do, but their home dip, shortage of attacking options and Arsenalโs current defensive steel tilt this fixture strongly toward the league leaders.
Tip: 2 (Arsenal to win).
