Hungary travel to Yerevan on Thursday knowing that a win over Armenia could all but secure their place in the World Cup qualifying play-offs. With two wins in their last five matches, Marco Rossi’s men are in strong form and have the chance to pile pressure on their group rivals before the later fixtures kick off.
Armenia, on the other hand, have endured a difficult campaign. Despite a surprise early win over the Republic of Ireland, they’ve since lost three of their last four qualifiers, struggling to find the back of the net. Their lack of cutting edge in attack has cost them dearly, and facing a well-organised Hungarian defence won’t make life easier.
Hungary’s Experience Should Tell
Hungary’s mix of defensive solidity and counter-attacking precision has made them one of the most balanced sides in the group. With players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Roland Sallai capable of unlocking defences, they should have enough to break down Armenia’s resistance.
Armenia’s home form offers little encouragement, with the hosts failing to score in four of their last five home games. Hungary’s discipline and efficiency should see them take full advantage.
Prediction: Armenia 0–2 Hungary
Tip: 2
